The 2020 FedEx Cup champion will be decided on Labor Day in Atlanta, Georgia. Only the top 30 golfers this season will be able to claim this award, as The Northern Trust and BMW Championship whittled the field down from 125 players. Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm are the favorites to win both the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup by the golf betting odds, as they are currently the only two players with more than 3,000 points this season. However, Justin Thomas is still lurking in third place despite two very disappointing finishes the last two weeks.

Location: East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta, Georgia

2019: Rory McIlroy -18

Any one of the 30 golfers in Atlanta can win the FedEx Cup, but the players leading the pack heading into the last PGA Tour event of this season have a distinct advantage. The first seed starts at -10, while the second seed starts at -8, the third seed starts at -7, the fourth seed starts at -6, and the fifth seed starts at -5. Players are grouped into tiers of five from there with six through ten starting at -4, 11 through 15 starting at -13, and so on.
The Course
East Lake is a par-70 golf course that has hosted the Tour Championship annually since 2004. Water isn’t much of a factor on this course, but the bunkers can be treacherous, and the pin placement can cause trouble due to the undulating greens. The 8th, 9th, 15th, and 16th holes are particularly dangerous, but many of these holes can be birdied by players that are accurate off the tee.
Value Play to Win the Event: Justin Thomas +1000
It might seem crazy to bet Justin Thomas given his performance since winning the WGC Invitational last month. Thomas has finished T37, T49, and T25 in his last three tournaments, and he was 10 shots behind Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson last weekend. However, he has three wins and four other T5 finishes this season, and Thomas has been lights out at East Lake over his career. Over the last four years, he has finished 6th, 2nd, 7th, and 3rd, proving that he has what it takes to contend here in Atlanta. Thomas would be 8-1 or lower with a decent performance in the last three weeks, so this is value.
Top 5 Prop: Rory McIlroy +225
McIlroy will start at -3 as he currently sits in 12th place in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, but he has dominated this course over the last four years. He beat Kevin Chappell and Ryan Moore in a playoff to win his first Tour Championship and FedEx Cup title in 2016, and McIlroy pulled off the double last year too. We saw McIlroy beat Xander Schauffele by four strokes in last year’s tournament, so he must be respected coming into the weekend.
