It’s time for the third golf major of the year, the U.S. Open will take place June 13-16. Once
again, Scottie Scheffler is the overwhelming favorite, and rightfully so. He’s the best golfer on
the planet despite what happened at Valhalla. All charges against him have been dropped and
now he can concentrate on winning his second major of 2024. When it comes to the wagering
side of the tournament, the U.S. Open seems to attract larger odds as we saw Wyndham Clark
with at 100/1 last year. Another thing to keep in mind, over the last 8 winners the average price
of the champion has been almost 40/1.
The Favorites
Scottie Scheffler (+325)
He’s the top golfer in the world and his betting odds have been short favorites at every major
this year. His recent run of four wins in five starts is the main reason his odds are so low. And
he’s coming off another win, this time at the Memorial. Scheffler has finished in the top-20 in
every tournament in 2024, including eleven top-8 finishes. Sure, he’ll likely be in contention on
Sunday, but there will be value elsewhere if you really want it.
Rory McIlroy (+1200)
Rory McIIroy’s first major came back in 2011 in the U.S. Open when he won by eight shots.
Since then, no other wins but he’s had 5 straight top-10 finishes including runner-up in 2023.
This year, McIIroy has one win and has been playing much more consistently. Can he put
together four solid rounds at Pinehurst and win his second U.S. Open?
Xander Schauffele (+1400)
Xander Schauffele was always considered the best player to never win a major but that
changed when he won the PGA Championship a few weeks ago. Aside from Scheffler,
Schauffele has been the most consistent golfer out there this season. Nine top-ten finishes, two
runner-ups, a third and fourth place finish. The run he’s on, he could win his second straight
major in North Carolina.
Longer Shot Plays
Wyndham Clark (+6000)
We haven’t seen a back-to-back winner since 2017-2018 when Brooks Koepka did but if you
think Wyndham Clark is capable of repeating, the value is definitely there. He’s No. 4 in the
world, has a win and 3 other top-three finishes. He’s been hot and cold but if he can catch fire
at Pinehurst, Clark is capable of hanging around until Sunday.
Sahith Theegala (+7000)
Sahith Theegala is the No. 12 player in the world and has played well of late. While he missed
the cut at the Canadian Open, he has five top-ten finishes and two runner-up finishes.
