Secretariat Favored For Saturday’s Virtual Kentucky Derby

The first Saturday in May is typically saved for the Kentucky Derby but since all major sports are on a hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, we’ll have to wait for the real Run for the Roses (moved to September 5^th). For now, we’ll have a virtual one Saturday that will pit some of the finest horses ever against each other.

NBC To Broadcast Virtual Kentucky Derby With All-Time Greats

NBC will be broadcasting a special event on Saturday that pits the 13 Triple Crown winners against each other. Known as the Kentucky Derby: Triple Crown Showdown, this will be a virtual race created by Inspired Entertainment. They’ll be using data algorithms and historical information to portray the horses as accurately as possible to their reality. That’s what makes this race so intriguing. To no one’s surprise, Secretariat – viewed as one of the greatest horses of all-time – is favored to win the race. Here’s what the latest betting odds look like.

The special broadcast will start at 3:00 p.m. ET and will start off with the 2015 Kentucky Derby, which was the start of American Pharoah’s epic Triple Crown run. As part of that broadcast, we’ll eventually see the virtual race.

Tiz The Law Favored To Win 2020 Kentucky Derby

It’s worth noting that the 2020 Kentucky Derby has been moved to September 5^th but we don’t have dates for the Preakness or the Belmont yet. At any rate, the current betting odds indicate that Tiz The Law is the favorite to win the Run for the Roses at +600. However, Charlatan, who is right behind at +700, could be in the favorite’s role by Monday morning. That’s because the 2020 Arkansas Derby will be run on Saturday and Charlatan is a heavy -220 favorite. The three-year-old colt is trained by Bob Baffert and has won his first two races. With a good showing at this Grade I race, he could move ahead of Tiz The Law.

Speaking of Tiz The Law, he’s the current Kentucky Derby favorite because he’s won four of his first five races so far. His lone miss was a third-place result at the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) in November. Since then, though, he’s won the Florida Derby (G1) and the Holy Bull States (G3). He’s trained by Barclay Tagg and now has three graded stakes race wins under his belt.
