The UFC is stateside once again after another set of scintillating bouts on Fight Island. This week’s main event will feature Uriah Hall taking on former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Dana White announced that this will be the 45-year-old Silva’s final fight with the UFC, and he is looking to go out with a win. Silva is considered one of the greatest fighters of all-time, but Hall is a moderate favorite per the UFC betting odds coming into Saturday night.
This week’s promotion will be held at UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. The prelims for UFC Fight Night: Hall vs. Silva will kick off at 4 p.m. ET, and the main event is slated to start at 7 p.m. ET. All the action will be available exclusively through ESPN Plus.
UFC Fight Night: Hall vs. Silva Betting Odds
Uriah Hall -230
Anderson Silva +195
Silva is arguably the greatest middleweight the world has ever seen. He knocked out Rich Franklin for the UFC middleweight championship in October 2006, and he successfully defended the title 14 times over a seven-year stretch before Chris Weidman brought his reign to an end. During that run, Silva earned Knockout of the Night honors seven times, Fight of the Night honors twice, and Submission of the Night accolades twice. What’s even more impressive is that four of his opponents tested positive for banned substances after the bout, highlighting his dominance at the peak of his career.
It’s been a brutal last seven years for the former champion though. In his rematch with Weidman, he broke the tibia and fibula in his left leg. That kept him out of the Octagon for over a year, and he lost something after that horrific injury. The combination of age and injury has led to him losing six of his last eight fights, and his win over Nick Diaz was overturned after he tested positive for two banned substances. Silva hasn’t been completely steamrolled though, putting up strong performances against Michael Bisping and Israel Adesanya in his losses to those foes.
Uriah Hall has never reached the same heights as Silva, but he is a formidable fighter with 11 of his 15 victories coming by knockout. Hall is unlikely to take this fight to the ground, as he has just one victory by submission in his long career as an MMA fighter, but he can stand and trade very well.
We haven’t seen Hall in the ring since September 2019, but it’s not for lack of effort. Hall was supposed to fight Ronaldo Souza this spring, but the bout was first postponed and then called off after Souza tested positive for COVID-19. He was slated to take on Yoel Romero in August, but Romero pulled out of that fight.
This is a great spot to bet Silva. It’s not just a sentimental bet, as Hall has yet to really defeat a top tier opponent, while Silva’s losses have all been to fighters at the top of the rankings. The UFC wouldn’t give Silva an unwinnable fight in his last bout with the promotion, and he has the ability to end it early against Hall.
Bryce Mitchell -130
Andre Fili +110
Mitchell has had a promising start to his MMA career. The 26-year-old is 13-0 as a fighter with a 4-0 record in the UFC. He doesn’t have knockout power with nine of his fights decided by submission and four decided by decision, but he has been impressive nonetheless.
Fili has been with the UFC for the last seven years. He alternated wins and losses in his first four years in the promotion, and that has kept him away from big fights. However, he is a worthy opponent that does have knockout power, as evidenced by his first-round knockout of Sheymon Moraes last July.
Kevin Holland -800
Charlie Ontiveros +550
Neither one of these fighters was originally supposed to take part in this promotion. Krzysztof Jotko was scheduled to take on Makhmud Muradov, but Holland replaced Jotko after the latter broke his toe in training. Then, Muradov tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, leading to him being replaced by unknown Charlie Ontiveros.
Ontiveros is a massive underdog coming into this fight. He is 11-6 in his MMA career, and this will be his first fight with the UFC.
