UFC Fight Night: Hall vs. Strickland Preview

Before MMA fans can get excited for UFC 265 next week, there is one more UFC event on the docket. Middleweights Uriah Hall and Sean Strickland will headline this weekend’s card as the eponymous fight at the end of the night. Hall is ranked No. 8 in the middleweight division, while Strickland is ranked No. 11, so the winner stands to get a big name in their next bout.

UFC Fight Night: Hall vs. Strickland will take place on Saturday, July 31, 2021, from the UFC Apex Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The prelims are set to start at 6 p.m. ET, while the main card will get underway at 9 p.m. ET. The entire promotion will be available on ESPN and ESPN+.

UFC Fight Night: Hall vs. Strickland Betting Odds

Uriah Hall +180

Sean Strickland -210

Although Uriah Hall defeated two former middleweight champions in his last two fights, he is a sizeable underdog on Saturday night. That’s because Anderson Silva was 45 years old when they fought last October, and Chris Weidman lost after suffering a horrific leg fracture 17 seconds into their fight three months ago.

Hall is 17-9 in his MMA career with 13 of his wins coming by knockout. His lone submission win came almost a decade ago, so there’s no doubt he wants to stand and trade. He is about 15 pounds heavier than Sean Strickland, and he has an almost four-inch reach advantage.

Strickland has won four straight matches prior to this fight. He has eight wins in his last 10 bouts, and one of those losses was to current champion Kamaru Usman. He is 23-3 as a professional fighter, but he might be a bit too much of a favorite considering the quality of his victories.

Rani Yahya +100

Kyung Ho Kang -120

Veteran Rani Yahya has never competed for a title, but he has been one of the best submission specialists in UFC history. Yahya has 21 submissions to his credit, and he is one of the few long-time fighters that has never won a fight by knockout. That makes him predictable, yet he continues to be successful as it can be very difficult for opponents to grapple with him.

This is not a great position for Kang. He is a submission specialist too, but he doesn’t have the same track record as Yahya. Although he has won six of his last seven fights, three of those wins came by split decision, and he hasn’t entered the Octagon in 19 months.

Zarrukh Adashev +115

Ryan Benoit -135

It’s been difficult for Ryan Benoit to make a name for himself in the UFC. He is 3-4 in the promotion since making his debut at UFC 185. Three of his matches have been decided by split decision though, so he can make the case that he is close to breaking through.

This is a make-or-break fight for Zarrukh Adashev. He was signed to a UFC contract after picking up three wins in Bellator, but he has lost his first two UFC fights and missed weight in his debut bout. A loss here probably means the end of his time in the UFC, so he must find a way to pick up his first win.
