As ESPN Reports Brady Expected To Leave, Raiders Favored To Land Him

There was a piece of surprising news on Thursday morning when ESPN’s Jeff Darlington reported that he’d be stunned if Tom Brady returned to the New England Patriots. The Hall of Famer-to-be will be hitting free agency for the first time in his NFL career and speculation – for a long time – has been that he might leave. With the new report out, the Brady odds at BetOnline show that the Las Vegas Raiders are favored to land him. Let’s take a look at the options for Brady – if he does in fact end up leaving.

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS
ODDS: +175

The Raiders remain the favorites to land Brady if he leaves. Earlier in the offseason, we heard a report out of Las Vegas that they’re prepared to offer him a two-year, $60 million contract. At $30 million per year, that might be too rich for what the Patriots want to pay Brady – especially after he had a bit of a down year last season.

The Raiders have also been rumored to be wooing Brady by offering to bring in another big name. For example, a package of Brady and A.J. Green or some other weapon to help the Raiders offense really take off in 2020. They remain the favorite.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
ODDS: +200

One of the surprise teams we heard both Darlington and ESPN’s Adam Schefter talk about on Thursday was the Indianapolis Colts. Previously, the Colts hadn’t been viewed as a top team in the running, so this comes a little bit out of left field.

The Colts appear to be a team that’s a quarterback away from being a Super Bowl contender. Remember, before Andrew Luck abruptly retired last offseason, they were viewed as one of the chief contenders in the AFC. They have a smart head coach in Frank Reich and a strong offensive line. With a young roster and tons of cap room, they could make a move for Brady and still have plenty of money left over to plug some holes on the roster.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
ODDS: +300

The Chargers continue to be in the running for Brady as they’re looking for a replacement for Philip Rivers, who they parted ways with earlier in the offseason. What’s odd about the Chargers is that they’re not saying a whole lot publicly about the prospects of landing Brady. Anytime the topic of quarterback has come up for the Chargers, they’ve pointed to veteran Tyrod Taylor – a holdover from last year’s roster – as being the guy that they’re going with.

Of course, the draw for Brady here is that he’d be playing in Los Angeles – a much bigger market than Indianapolis or Las Vegas. The Chargers are typically a frugal franchise but maybe they break the bank for Brady as they’re moving into a new stadium in 2020. Signing a guy like Brady is sure to pack the seats at the new SoFi Stadium.

At the same time, even if the Chargers don’t offer him the biggest deal, he can probably make plenty of money on endorsements, so whatever is left on the table, he’ll mop up in those marketing deals.
