NFL Fantasy Duds Week 17

This is Championship Week for most fantasy football leagues. It’s been a crazy December with many star players missing games due to either injuries or COVID, and that has created a lot of problems with teams managing their rosters for the playoffs. Fortunately, there aren’t as many issues this week as we saw in Week 16, and the hope is that holds true in the leadup to Sunday’s games in Week 17.

Kirk Cousins (QB) at Green Bay Packers

Although his overall numbers are pretty good, Kirk Cousins has not played well over the last three weeks. He completed 50% of his passes or less in two of those three games, and he needed garbage time to have a solid game against the Los Angeles Rams last week. Green Bay’s defense has allowed two or more passing touchdowns in each of the last five games, but Cousins has historically struggled in Lambeau Field. The high is expected to be 15 degrees on Sunday, and the Packers won’t let up after losing to the Minnesota Vikings earlier in the season.

D’Onta Foreman (RB) vs. Miami Dolphins

It’s tempting to take a Tennessee running back given the success Derrick Henry has had running behind this offensive line over the last few years. However, it’s become even more clear that Henry is something of an anomaly. Foreman has averaged 4.2 YPC in his seven games, but he has been extremely hit or miss. He has run for 30 yards or less in four games with more than 100 yards in two games. Additionally, Ryan Tannehill has stole a lot of touchdowns from him in the red zone as Tannehill has seven rushing TDs.

D.J. Moore (WR) at New Orleans Saints

You have to feel bad for D.J. Moore at this point. Moore is clearly one of the best receivers in the NFC, but Carolina has one of the worst quarterback situations in the league. Although Moore has been targeted at least 10 times in each of the last four games, he hasn’t reached the end zone and has largely caught underneath passes. It’s good news that Sam Darnold is back under center, but New Orleans has been very good at stopping opposing quarterbacks.

Mike Gesicki (TE) at Tennessee Titans

Mike Gesicki has been one of the better tight ends in fantasy football over the course of this season. Gesicki has 67 receptions for 707 yards and two touchdowns, and he has been targeted more than 100 times. However, we have seen Tua Tagovailoa target Jaylen Waddle in the short passing game a lot more over the course of this season, and Tennessee’s defense is very good about stopping tight ends.

San Francisco 49ers (D/ST) vs. Houston Texans

The 49ers defense has been a strong situational play over the last couple months. However, Houston seems to have found something with rookie quarterback Davis Mills. Since he returned to the starting lineup, Mills has played very well. He has thrown for 794 yards with five touchdowns and an interception over the last three weeks.
