Winston Listed At +120 To Throw Two Interceptions In Week 17

With Winston’s picks being a hot topic, BetOnline.ag has posted odds on what he’ll do in Week 17. Let’s take a closer look:

THE INTERCEPTION PROBLEM

After the four-interception effort last week, Jameis Winston has now thrown 28 interceptions on the year. He threw four against the Houston Texans in Week 16 to put the 30-interception mark in play for Week 17. Winston threw a fifth pass which should have been intercepted, but a member of the Houston Texans dropped the pass, which hit him right between the numbers on his jersey. Winston has been interception-prone throughout his career and he hasn’t been able to break his bad habits several seasons into his NFL journey. It’s his first campaign under new head coach Bruce Arians after spending the previous several seasons under Dirk Koetter and the general thought was that Arians – a quarterbacks guru – would be able to get Winston on track. That hasn’t exactly been the case but Winston’s upside continues to be quite incredible as the Bucs have still won five of seven – even through all of his mistakes.

WILL JAMEIS WINSTON THROW A PICK-SIX IN WEEK 17?

NO -1000
YES +500

The Buccaneers are going against the Atlanta Falcons, who were 1-7 eight games into the season, but have gone 5-2 in the past seven games. They have just learned that coach Dan Quinn will return for the 2020 season, so that could fire them up. Given that their 35-22 loss to the Buccaneers was one of their rare missteps in the second half of this 2019 season, they will probably play better on defense in this game.

Winston now has six pick-sixes on the year, which is the most in NFL history (since the merger in 1970). He needs one more to set the dubious record.

WILL JAMEIS WINSTON THROW AN INT ON FIRST POSSESSION IN WEEK 17?

NO -550
YES +325

A pick-six is improbable and a first-possession interception is also very improbable if only because it is one possession. If Tampa Bay goes three and out on its first possession, with one of the three plays being a running play, Winston might wind up throwing only two passes, maybe only one pass if he is sacked on one of the two passing plays.

However, keep in mind that Winston has been interception six times on the opening drive this season and four times on his first throw.

WILL JAMEIS WINSTON THROW 2 OR MORE INTS IN WEEK 17?

NO -160
YES +120

This is the proposition in which betting yes makes by far the most sense since it is not confined to a single unlikely play such as a pick-six, and it isn’t confined to one possession, which can be a very limited range of plays. This proposition refers to a full game and a full range of plays in all sorts of situations. It is precisely the full game in which Winston is likely to make mistakes – not on one play or one drive, but over the course of a larger set of circumstances. Winston can look really good on one drive, but then he will let down his guard later. He’s also playing without his top two targets in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, so that won’t help his cause.
