Belgium Heavy Favorites to Win Group E

Belgium lucked out with the draw for Euro 2024 facing the two lowest ranked teams in the world

(Slovenia, Romania) at the tournament. There’s no question the Red Devils are the class of the

group, but don’t forget, they crashed out of Qatar 2022 by finishing third and not advancing out

of the group stage.

Group Winner: Belgium -275

This may be the golden generation’s final opportunity to win Belgium’s first international trophy.

Since taking over as manager, Domenico Tedesco’s side has been impressive going unbeaten

during qualifying. Romelu Lukaku netted a Euro qualifying record 14 goals but is also joined by

some young stars up front in Jérémy Doku and Johan Bakayoko. Belgium, ranked #4 in the

world, should have no problem winning this group, but when it comes to winning it all, the road

ahead won’t be easy.

Key player: Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne is the engine for this side and has the most assists of any player in Europe’s

big five leagues in all competitions since the start of last season. De Bruyne has dealt with

recent injuries but if he’s conducting things on the pitch, Belgium will have a shot against all

comers.

Group Winner: Romania +600

Romania returns to the dance after failing in qualification in 2020. They were well organized in

their matches staying undefeated with 6 wins and 4 draws. Romania’s coach is more about

defense and if this squad plays well in the final third, they could cause some problems. This

defense surrendered just 5 goals in qualification and will rely heavily on center-back Radu

Dragusin, who is considered the nations best player.

Group Winner: Ukraine +650

Despite what’s happening politically in the country, Ukraine qualified for a fourth straight Euro

tournament but had to do it the hard way, going through a playoff. And what was even more

impressive, Ukraine had comeback wins against Bosnia and Iceland to secure their spot. If they

can get results against the lower ranked Romania and Slovenia, Ukraine should go through.

Winning the group won’t be easy but an upset here, and they could get that top spot.

Group Winner: Slovenia +1000

Slovenia makes its second appearance at the European Championships, 24 years after making

its debut. Slovenia looks to make history advancing past the group stage for the first time ever.

They were eliminated in 2000 and two World Cup tournaments in the first round. They do have

some momentum winning seven of ten qualifying games in a competitive group and are led by

Benjamin Sesko who netted 5 goals.
