EURO 2020 Quarterfinals Preview

A continent will be waiting with bated breath as the last eight teams at EURO 2020 duke it out on Friday and Saturday. We saw the last three major international tournament winners (Germany, Portugal, and France) fall in the Round of 16, so only a handful of heavyweights are left in this year’s European Championships. Italy, Belgium, England, and Spain are seen as the favorites, while Switzerland, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Denmark are the Cinderellas. We will see at least one of the latter teams in the semifinals as Denmark faces Czech Republic in one of the semifinals on Saturday.

EURO 2020 Quarterfinals Betting Odds

Switzerland +470

Spain -150

Draw +285

Over/Under 2.5

It’s hard to know what to make of Spain. La Roja look brilliant at times, and they look lost at others. They don’t have a superb finisher as we saw in year’s past, but Alvaro Morata can be dangerous if given opportunities. Spain’s defense collapsed in the last several minutes of their Round of 16 clash with Croatia, and that can’t happen again.

Switzerland will be at a disadvantage though. Granit Xhaka will miss this match due to yellow card accumulation, so a lot of pressure will be on Xherdan Shaqiri and Haris Seferovic. Those two will need to play very well to send the Swiss through.

Belgium +250

Italy +130

Draw +215

Over/Under 2

This will be the second straight difficult test for Belgium. The Belgians had to hang on to a 1-0 win against Portugal in the Round of 16 without Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard, and those two stars won’t be 100% for this match. Romelu Lukaku might be the most dangerous striker at this tournament though, and he has three goals through four games.

Italy looked dominant in the Group Stage. However, the Azzurri did not look great against Austria. The Italians failed to break through in regulation, and they needed added time to advance to the quarterfinals. They can’t afford a similar performance against a Belgian side that is far more dangerous with the ball at their feet.

Czech Republic +295

Denmark +110

Draw +225

Over/Under 2

Every neutral fan is rooting for Denmark following the Christian Eriksen incident. Denmark is being painted as a team of destiny as a result, and that has led to some lopsided odds considering the actual strength of this team. The Danes do have other talented players, but they aren’t considerably better than the Czech Republic.

Patrik Schick has provided fans with some of the most sensational goals of the tournament. Schick is the only recognizable name on the Czech side to many fans, but this team has a better chance than you might think of making it to the semifinals.

Ukraine +825

England -235

Draw +345

Over/Under 2.5

This match figures to be the biggest blowout of the quarterfinals. Ukraine were fortunate to get to this point. They were largely outplayed by Sweden in their Round of 16 match and scored at the death once Sweden were down to 10 men. Andriy Shevchenko’s side does not have a good back line and that will be punished.

Meanwhile, England is salivating at the prospect of winning its first European Championship. The Three Lions have yet to allow a goal, and they have excellent attacking options. Jack Grealish is proving to be just the thing England needed to add some creativity up top, and the English should roll.
