Alouettes At +900 To Win Grey Cup As New Ownership Takes Over

The Montreal Alouettes finished the 2019 CFL season 10-8 and ended up losing in the first round of the playoffs. They’ve mostly been a middling franchise since the Anthony Calvillo days but now there’s a catalyst for a change. New ownership has taken over this week, so what does that mean for their prospects in 2020? Let’s take a look at the early Grey Cup futures, including the Alouettes, who have opened up at +900.

THE FAVORITES

HAMILTON TIGER-CATS
GREY CUP ODDS: +400

After setting a franchise-record in 2019 with 15 wins, the Tiger-Cats will have unfinished business this upcoming season. The fact that they were able to achieve the level of success they did despite playing without their franchise quarterback Jeremiah Masoli for most of the year suggests the best is yet to come. Masoli will team with Brandon Banks and a talented cast of offensive weapons to form one of the most dangerous attacks in the league if they stay healthy. Meanwhile, Hamilton’s league-best defense will have a tough time matching last year’s numbers but that doesn’t mean it can’t be one of the best in the CFL.

SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS
GREY CUP ODDS: +500

The Roughriders are coming off a disappointing finish last season. However, there are still enough quality pieces in place to expect big things in 2020. Cody Fajardo will return under center. Meanwhile, Shaquelle Evans, Kyran Moore and Naaman Roosevelt will form one of the best wide receiver trios in the league. Saskatchewan appears to have the most complete team from the West division at least one paper. The Roughriders deserve to be the favorite to win it all from the West.

THE LONG SHOTS

CALGARY STAMPEDERS
GREY CUP ODDS: +600

The Stampeders are listed behind Saskatchewan in terms of favorites from the West division. However, that is something we could actually use to our advantage getting the better value by betting on them to win it all. Calgary finished last season with the third-best record in the CFL. The Stampeders could have looked a lot different if they had quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell all season. With a healthy quarterback and one of the best defenses in the CFL, Calgary could surprise as a legitimate Grey Cup contender at excellent value.

MONTREAL ALOUETTES
GREY CUP ODDS: +900

If you are looking for a sleeper pick to win it all, Montreal might be the best bet on the board at +900 odds. With new ownership in place and a commitment to making a splash this season, the Alouettes have the potential to surprise. Invigorated by that commitment and with a new coaching staff, it’s time for Montreal to go to work in a wide-open East division outside of Hamilton. The ownership group has deep pockets and isn’t afraid to spend in order to build a legitimate Grey Cup contender. With a sense of urgency to establish a winning product, the Alouettes appear to be a quality sleeper pick worth putting some money on to win the Grey Cup in 2020.
