The 2020 PGA Tour season will pick up again in January but it won’t be until April that we get our first major event of the season with The Masters. While we still have a long way to go before the majors get started, we can start to bet on those tournaments with a wide range of futures props available for the public to wager on. One golf futures bet that stands out as one that could be very valuable is how many Americans will win majors in 2020. After a strong performance last year, there is a very good chance that the American contingent matches their major tournament results this coming season. Here is a closer look at how many majors Americans will win in 2020.

HOW MANY AMERICANS WON IN 2019?
In 2019, the Americans accounted for three of the four major tournament victories. Tiger Woods was the most notable of the big winners after finally capturing that elusive major tournament victory when he won The Masters. Brooks Koepka, who was favored at a number of the Majors, won the PGA Championship. Meanwhile, Gary Woodland was the surprise winner at the U.S. Open.
The last Major went to Shane Lowry of Ireland, who won the Open Championship at Dunluce Course.
HOW MANY AMERICANS WILL WIN IN 2020?
So how many major tournaments will Americans win this upcoming season? Over the last three years, Americans have won nine of the 12 major tournaments – three of four in each of the three years. A quick look at the futures odds for 2020 reveals an interesting trend. Five of the top-seven sports betting favorites to win a major this upcoming season are American, including the favorite Brooks Koepka. Koepka is joined by Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Tiger and Patrick Cantlay among the favorites to win at least one major in 2020. The non-American contingent in that top-seven group includes Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.
It makes sense that Koepka is the obvious favorite in this situation based on what he has done over the last year. Koepka has the potential to absolutely dominate when he is at the top of this game. While it might seem silly to bet on him to win more than a single major, would it really shock the world if he won multiple majors this season? While McIlroy and Rahm have tremendous talent, that tandem has combined for exactly zero major tournament wins dating back to 2014. Koepka along is capable of winning two majors. Justin Thomas is very capable of winning at least one. Nobody would be surprised if D.J. bounced back this season and contender for another. Even Tiger has the potential to win a major if his body can hold up.
So how many major tournaments will Americans win in 2020? The smart money pick is 3, which is available at +210 odds. While Americans can win all four majors this season, it’s more likely than not that they will miss on at least one. After accounting for exactly three major wins in each of the last three seasons, we are betting on them hitting that total again in 2020. The smart money is on Americans winning three majors in 2020.
