Dustin Johnson Clear Favorite At 2020 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am

The PGA Tour will head back to California and the Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am this week. 156 golfers will tee up in the final multiple-course tournament of the season this week with Spyglass Hill and Monterey Peninsula Country Club’s Shore Course sharing duties for the 11th consecutive year. We took the time to identify some key trends and other statistics that you should keep your eye out for this week in order to help you handicap this tournament. Here is a look at what you need to know ahead of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am.

EVENT DETAILS

EVENT: AT&T PEBBLE BEACH PRO AM
CATEGORY: PGA
DATE: FEBRUARY 6TH-9TH, 2020
LOCATION: PEBBLE BEACH GOLF LINKS, SPYGLASS HILL GOLF COURSE, MONTEREY PENINSULA COUNTRY CLUB, PEBBLE BEACH, CALIFORNIA

A year ago, Phil Mickelson secured his fifth title in 23 starts at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am. He’s also finished second and third twice each to easily secure the all-time money lead at this event. Does Phil have it in him to make another serious run at the title? Or will it be somebody else’s turn to celebrate on Sunday?

PAST FIVE WINNERS

2019: PHIL MICKELSON -19
2018: TED POTTER JR. -17
2017: JORDAN SPIETH -19
2016: VAUGHN TAYLOR -17
2015: BRANDT SNEDEKER -22

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE COURSE

It’s important to keep in mind that there are three different courses in the rotation this week. Host course Pebble Beach has some of the smallest greens on the PGA Tour, while Spyglass and Monterey will look a little different. Course history has been an especially important statistic to consider when handicapping this event. Those that have experienced the grind of this tournament know what to expect and will be better prepared. In addition to Phil, Dustin Johnson, Brandt Snedeker and Jason Day stand out as legitimate contenders that know what it takes to win the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am.

A GOOD MATCHUP TO BET: DUSTIN JOHNSON OVER PAUL CASEY

It should be no surprise that we are leaning on D.J. in our head-to-head matchup this week. While Phil has had the most success all-time at this event, Johnson is No. 2 on the all-time money earnings list for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am with two wins, two runner-up finishes, a third-place finish and two other top-five results in 12 starts. As consistent as they come at this event, D.J. is coming off some impressive results to begin 2020 including a runner-up in the Saudi International. While Casey is a very capable golfer, he wasn’t able to finish the job as the runner-up to Mickelson here last year and we just don’t hold him in the same regard as D.J.. Since we were looking for someone with decent value to fade against Johnson, Casey made the most sense for a smart pick to bet against in this head-to-head matchup.

FIVE TRENDS WORTH NOTING FOR THE AT&T PEBBLE BEACH PRO AM

–Every AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am winner since 1994 has been from the United States except one – Vijay Singh in 2004.

–There are plenty of repeat winners including Mickelson (5), Mark O’Meara (5), Johnson (2), Snedeker (2)

–Snedeker is an excellent value pick this week at +2200 to win outright

–Nine of the last 11 winners have played in the Ryder Cup

–Bogey Avoidance is among the top statistics to consider when evaluating the field for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am
