Liverpool Keeping Fingers Crossed For A Premiership Title Miracle

Even though they’re a long shot to take the English Premier League title there’s not going to be anyone around Anfield hanging their head or moping. It’s been a brilliant season for The Reds and in their first Anfield appearance since their mind boggling victory over Barcelona the mood should be a celebratory one. They’re now favored to win the Champions League title and even runner up status in the Premiership can’t diminish the fact that they lost only 1 game in league play this season. They enter this game a full 13 points up on third place Chelsea which further underscores the dominance of their season.
Even so, they’ll no doubt be aware of what is going on at Amex Stadium just over 250 miles to the South. If they can get some help from lowly Brighton taking points from Manchester City the door for a EPL Championship swings open. Liverpool is undefeated at Anfield this season (16-2-0) and they’ve been matching City win for win down the stretch. They’ve won 11 of 12 in all competitions including 7 straight at home. They’ve been scoring goals in buckets–the past 7 home wins have seen 2 or more goals scored in each with 4 seeing a minimum of three goals scored.
Liverpool has received some good news on the injury front–Mohamed Salah suffered a concussion against Newcastle last week and missed the epic game against Barcelona. He has returned to practice and according to manager Jurgen Klopp is on course to play this weekend. Andy Robertson and Jordan Henderson both left the game against Barcelona but are expected to play here. Robert Firmino, however, will miss this contest with a muscle strain. Salah may have also launched some significant t-shirt sales after photos of him wearing a black shirt with the words ‘Never Give Up’ during the Champions League semifinal game went viral.
Woverhampton has also had a strong season and will make the Europa League if Manchester City beats Watford in next week’s FA Cup final. They have locked up 7th place and that was the team’s primary goal before the start of the season. The fact that they might return to European cup play should they get the right result in the FA Cup is an added bonus. The Wolves have been erratic away from home in the Premier League (6-5-7) but have won 3 straight and are unbeaten in their last four league games. It’s unclear how manager Nuno Espirito Santo will approach the personnel allocation for this game. Wolverhampton has been competitive on their recent trips to Anfield winning 2 of the last 3 matchups with the most recent coming in January 2017 in FA Cup play. Although Wolves lost 3-0 at Manchester City they secured away draws against Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Liverpool should get the win here but Wolverhampton is capable of turning in a strong effort. Much depends on who plays and for how long. That makes the handicap all the more difficult. The total is just as tough as the English Premier League betting odds and could easily land right on 3. We’ll go with the ‘Both Teams to Score’ wager and also back Mohamed Salah to finish as the Premiership’s top goal scorer. The three players tied for second place (Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal and Sergio Aguero) would need a hat trick to pass Salah assuming that he doesn’t score. Even if he doesn’t play here, Salah will be tough to pass.
