The Best Bets To Win The Mayakoba Golf Classic
The PGA Tour will shift gears and head to Playa del Carmen, Mexico and the El Camaleon Golf Club for this week’s Mayakoba Golf Classic. Considered one of the best courses on the PGA Tour schedule for golfers that can really hammer the ball of the tee, it’s no secret that we will target strong drivers that excel in that category. Let’s take a look at the best bets to win the Mayakoba Golf Classic.
MAYAKOBA GOLF CLASSIC
NOVEMBER 14TH-17TH, 2019
LOCATION: EL CAMALEON GOLF CLUB, PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MEXICO
PAST FIVE WINNERS
2018: MATT KUCHAR -22
2017: PATTON KIZZIRE -19
2016: PAT PEREZ -21
2015: GRAEME MCDOWELL -18 (PLAYOFF)
2014: CHARLEY HOFFMAN -17
MATT KUCHAR +1600
Kuchar opened the week with longer odds but has now shifted into the favorite role, according to the golf betting lines. He’s the defending champion. While he’s making his season debut this week, we know that he should be well rested and focused. The biggest question we have is whether or not he can pick up from where he left off in his last start at this event when he won it outright.
NEXT IN LINE
JASON DAY +1800
The recently crowned captain’s pick for the Presidents Cup looks like he has an opportunity to reward Ernie Els’ faith in him with a strong performance this week. Day has struggled since The Masters, but he is too talented not to rebound at some point in the near future. Day did win The Challenge: Japan Skins over Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama and Tiger Woods last week, so it isn’t like we haven’t seen flashes of his immense potential of late.
BILLY HORSCHEL +2000
Horschel is flying under the radar somewhat this week with names like Viktor Hovland and Tony Finau listed slightly ahead of him. However, if you look at the numbers he has produced of late, it’s clear that Horschel has the potential to shine. Horschel has produced four Top 10 finishes and two Top 25 results in his last eight starts. With a pair of Top 25 results in his four starts at this event, Horschel has enough experience to make his move and contend for the outright victory this week. He might be the best value bet on the board.
CARLOS ORTIZ +6600
Ortiz is one of several Mexicans that will tee off looking to capitalize on an opportunity to pick up a win in their home country this week. At 66/1 odds, there is some intriguing value here. Ortiz is coming off a Top 4 finish at the Houston Open. He also finished T-4th at the Sanderson Farms Championship earlier this season. It’s a lot to ask of him to win outright but a Top 10 prop could be reasonable. After all, he placed T-9th in his debut at back in 2014.
MARK HUBBARD +12500
If you are looking for a really deep sleeper, you might want to take a look at Hubbard. After picking up his PGA Tour card, Hubbard gets an opportunity to continue his run of impressive performances in his native state. The Texan has made the cut in five of his first six starts of 2019-20, including a runner-up finish at the Houston Open. We’re throwing darts here but from the longest shots of the week, Hubbard would be the pick.
