Who Will Qualify for the Champions League?
The most important game on Decision Day figures to be the tilt between Leicester City and Manchester United. The Foxes are hosting the Red Devils at King Power Stadium, and they need either a win or a draw and a Chelsea loss to qualify for next year’s Champions League.
Leicester City are underdogs per the Premier League betting odds due to their poor performance since the restart. They are 2-3-3 in their eight league games since the season resumed, and their 3-0 shellacking at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur underscored their inability to find the back of the net over the last month. The Foxes have only scored nine goals over their last nine matches, and most of those came in their two wins over Crystal Palace and Sheffield United.
Manchester United knocked off Leicester City at Old Trafford back in September, and the Red Devils have been red hot. They erased an eight-point deficit to move into third place, and this club had a 20-match winning streak in all competitions before their loss to Chelsea in the FA Cup Semifinals last week. A result will be enough to see them return to the Champions League, so they won’t have the same pressure as Leicester City.
While Chelsea do benefit mightily from those two clubs playing each other, the Blues still need to pick up a result against a difficult opponent. Wolverhampton have made a name for themselves as a giant killer over the last couple years, and Wolves’ solid back line makes it difficult to score goals. Wolves had their worst performance of the season when they hosted Chelsea at the Molineux, allowing five goals and a Tammy Abraham hat trick, so that gives Chelsea some inspiration.
Who Will Avoid Relegation?
Tens of millions of pounds are on the line as Bournemouth, Aston Villa, and Watford all try to stay in the Premier League next season. Villa have a slight edge over Watford due to their advantage in goal differential, and they are the most likely team to earn a result this weekend as the only favorite of the three by the EPL betting odds.
Villa will travel to 15th place West Ham, while Watford must face Arsenal at the Emirates and Bournemouth will head to Goodison Park to take on Everton. After spending $175 million on new players following their promotion, Villa need to stay up to avoid financial catastrophe.
