Three Late Season English Premier League Games Set For Sunday

The English Premier League Season is winding down and following Sunday’s action there will be just two matches left for every team on the table. One relegation spot remains though at this point it appears that Cardiff City will join Fulham and Huddersfield back in the League Championship. Brighton is still technically at risk though their situation has improved markedly after Saturday’s hard fought draw at Newcastle United. They have a tough schedule the rest of the way facing Arsenal and Manchester City but the point from the draw has put Cardiff in an extremely difficult spot.

Cardiff will have beat Crystal Palace at home next Saturday and get the win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on the final day of the season. Brighton has not only the four point edge but a 14 goal better differential that must be overcome for Cardiff to survive. None of the bottom five teams are in action on Sunday but will certainly be watching the results as they prepare for the final two fixtures on the Premiership schedule. Four of the top six teams on the table are in action on Sunday with all eyes on Manchester City as they continue their push for the EPL title.

ARSENAL AT LEICESTER CITY

Arsenal is still hoping to return to the top four though they have lost control of their own destiny after back to back losses. The Gunners also allowed three goals in losses to Wolverhampton and Crystal Palace making the results even more devastating to their late season push. Leicester City is bound for a middle of the table finish but there’s a significant perception difference between a 7th place finish and a 10th place finish. They have a realistic shot of picking up points with only 1 loss in their last 5 home games against Arsenal. They beat Arsenal 3-1 at King Power Stadium last season but that is their only home win in the series in the last 11 meetings. Arsenal has lost 5 of their last 8 Premier League away games leaving them with a less the an impressive 6-4-7 record this season. Plenty of reason to be concerned about Arsenal’s poor defensive form and their last three Premiership games against Leicester City have seen a good deal of scoring. Taking a look at the English Premier League odds rundown we’ll take the draw off the table by backing the home team on the two way line and look for the contest to go ‘Over’ the total.

MANCHESTER CITY AT BURNLEY

The pressure is all on Manchester City in this game as Burnley is now safely at the 40 point mark and out of relegation danger. They have nothing to lose here while Manchester City is being pushed by Liverpool as they look for a second straight Premiership title. Burnley is unbeaten in their last four EPL games with three wins and a draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. They haven’t been particularly formidable at Turf Moor this season with a 7-2-8 record. Burnley will certainly have their hands full as Manchester City has won 11 straight in the Premier League including their last 5 away games. City has already beaten Burnley twice this season at home with a pair of 5-0 wins in EPL and FA Cup play. Burnley did earn a draw at home against Manchester City last year. Tough game to bet but given City’s impressive defensive form of late–one goal allowed in their last six EPL away games–we’ll look for them to keep a clean sheet.

CHELSEA AT MANCHESTER UNITED

While the previous game might have the most significant implications in the final Premier League standings this game looks to be the most intriguing. Chelsea has moved into 4th place on the EPL table though they would like to turn their recent form around with a loss and a draw in their last two. They are 1 point up on Arsenal who is also in action today and 3 pack of Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester United is in 6th place two back of Arsenal and 3 back of Chelsea. Man U can finish no lower than 6th with Wolverhampton 10 points back. They’re coming off of two resounding defeats losing 2-0 at home to Manchester City and 4-0 at Everton. Chelsea is 9-1-7 away from Stamford Bridge in Premiership play while Manchester United is 10-5-2 at home but have lost 3 of their last 5 EPL games here. They are, however, unbeaten in their last 5 at home against Chelsea winning two straight. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have a much more enjoyable Summer with a strong finish. The team won 8 straight when he took over as interim manager but have lost 7 of 9 since he was given the job permanently. Both sides have seen their attack sputter at times this year and 8 of the last 11 head to head between Man U and Chelsea have seen at least one side fail to score.
