Best Bets at the 2021 World Wide Technology Championship
Some of the best golfers in the world will escape the November cold and head to the beautiful Mayan Riviera to take part in the 2021 World Wide Technology Championship this week. Viktor Hovland is the defending champion of this event, and he is among the favorites to win on Sunday. Hovland has had two weeks off since his last tournament, and he is coming off a T18 finish at the CJ Cup.
Event Details
Event: World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba
Category: PGA Tour
Date: November 4-7, 2021
Location: Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico
Past Winners
2020: Viktor Hovland -20
2019: Brendon Todd -20
2018: Matt Kuchar -22
2017: Patton Kizzire -19
2016: Pat Perez -21
There has yet to be a repeat winner of the World Wide Technology Championship. This event has been around since 2007, but no golfer has won it more than once or even has multiple T2 finishes. Sunday should be full of excitement too as this event has only been decided by more than two strokes one time.
Matt Kuchar is going to be a popular 100-1 underdog pick. Kuchar set the course record here in 2018, and the 43-year-old has nine PGA Tour victories on his resume. He didn’t take part in this event last year, but he finished 14th two year ago thanks to a final day 62.
The Course
This is a par-71 course, and it’s relatively short at just 7,017 yards. That means big hitters don’t have as much of an advantage as they would at other places. These are some of the easiest greens that you will find in a PGA Tour event, and the winner will likely have to shoot 20-under.
Best Bet to Win BMW Championship: Tony Finau +2500
Tony Finau finally won his second PGA Tour event three months ago. Finau claimed The Northern Trust by finishing 20-under, and he was one of the best golfers in the world last season. He finished T15 at the BMW Championship and T11 at the Tour Championship to close out the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and he also grabbed three consecutive T5 finishes at one point. Finau finished T8 here last year and also earned a T7 finish at El Camaleon Golf Club in the past. That makes him a great pick at 25-1.
Value Play to Win BMW Championship: Rickie Fowler +4500
Rickie Fowler has five PGA Tour wins to his credit. His last victory came at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, but he finished T3 at the CJ Cup a few weeks ago. Fowler had a T8 finish at the PGA Championship this summer too, and he is looking to wipe away a poor performance here last year. He finished runner-up here three years ago though, and eight of his ten career rounds on this course were in the 60s.
