It’s official, after both women walked out victorious at Elimination Chamber, Becky
Lynch will face Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship at Wrestlemania 40.
These two have faced each other just once before in televised competition at NXT 500
back in 2019, but that ended in a no contest. Can The Man regain main roster gold for
the first time in two years? Or will Mami’s year-long reign continue?
Back to the Big Times
Becky Lynch is coming off an impressive win in her first ever Elimination Chamber and
became Ripley’s Wrestlemania 40 opponent in the process. The Grand-Slam and
Triple-Crown champion is one of the company’s most recognizable and popular stars.
She won the first ever women’s main event in Wrestlemania history and has set a
standard that few, man or woman, have been able to reach. While the Women’s World
Championship hasn’t been on the forefront on many people’s minds over the past two
months, Lynch winning the gold at the April event can only welcome the division back to
the Big Time.
Ripley’s Believe it or Not
Between running the table at last year’s Royal Rumble and defeating Charlotte Flair at
Wrestlemania 39, Ripley had a banner year in 2023. Since winning the Women’s World
Championship at last year’s Wrestlemania, Ripley has been a focal point of Raw each
week, even if she isn’t always competing on it. Seemingly the leader of the Judgment
day, the Eradicator has only defended her title 9 times on TV or on a PLE. That being
said, she has been a main talking point of each episode and is constantly involved in
Judgment Day business. Her losing the title could cause a disruption in the group and
cause cracks in the stable which could lead her down an interesting storyline.
The Pick: Becky Lynch +300
Long reigns were thought to have been a thing of the past until Roman Reigns became
champ. Quietly, Rhea has joined those ranks with her stranglehold on the Women’s
World Championship during a, soon-to-be, year-long reign. A change in the women’s
title picture would definitely shake things up and, if anything, brighten the spotlight
shimmering on the title as it lays on Becky’s shoulder. Lynch is a top dog in the wrestling world with cross-over appeal. What better way to get eyes back on the women’s division than with her holding the Championship and actually defending it. When it comes to Mami, The Man finishes on top.
