Evil Geniuses are looking to repeat as champions after an unlikely LCS title in the Spring Split. They had the fifth best odds to win the LCS before the start of the LCS Lock-In Tournament and the third best odds to win the league at the start of the regular season. Evil Geniuses could only manage to go 9-9 in the regular season, but they flipped a switch after losing a five-game series with favorites Team Liquid in the upper half of the playoff bracket. They proceeded to drop just one game on their way to smashing FlyQuest, Cloud9, Team Liquid, and 100 Thieves on their way to the title and are now co-favorites to win the 2022 LCS Summer Split with Team Liquid.

The defending champions are running it back with their whole roster after Evil Geniuses claimed a domestic title for the first time in their history. Young players like Inspired, Jojopyun, and Danny received much needed experience on the international stage, but it’s hard to imagine this team repeating as champions. Jojopyun is not that strong of a mid laner despite some of the accolades he has received, and we saw holes poked in Danny’s game at MSI.
Team Liquid was a disappointment in the Spring Split, but this is clearly the team to beat in the Summer Split with their talent. They were the No. 1 seed in the regular season during the Spring Split, and they have talent at every position. Liquid likely needed a split in order to build chemistry with their new roster, so they should dominate throughout this season.
We saw 100 Thieves sweep Team Liquid to win the 2021 LCS Summer Split Championship, and they finished runner-up in the Spring Split. 100 Thieves still have their roster intact, so they have a chemistry edge over any of their opponents, but they will struggle in a bottom lane focused meta. While FBI and Huhi have performed better than expected, they are at best the third-best bottom lane in the region.
The other contender for the title in the LCS Summer Split is Cloud9. They have made some interesting changes in the offseason, bringing back veteran mid laner Jensen and moving Fudge back into the top lane. Perhaps the most important factor in their potential success though is Zven moving from bottom lane to support. Zven is one of the most decorated AD Carry players of all-time, and he will now be moving into a more complementary role.
It was a rough Spring Split for Team SoloMid, but they shouldn’t be 30-1 to win the title. TSM still has more resources than most teams in the LCS, and they made a major improvement in the mid lane by bringing in Maple from the LPL. This team has the potential to turn a lot of heads over the second half of 2022.
