2022 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational Semifinals Betting Preview

We finally saw some upsets in the Rumble Stage of the Mid-Season Invitational, but the four teams that were expected to advance to the semifinals ended up punching their tickets on the final day. Contrary to expectations, the top team in the Rumble Stage was Royal Never Give Up. The defending champions went 8-2, splitting their two games with other pre-tournament favorites T1 and G2 Esports. T1 finally got their feet under them on the final day of action, but it was too late to avoid a matchup with Korean killers G2 Esports in the semifinals of the Mid-Season Invitational.

Royal Never Give Up -3333
Evil Geniuses +1231

Anyone that is totally discounting Evil Geniuses’ chances of pulling off the upset over Royal Never Give Up has forgotten what happened at the Mid-Season Invitational three years ago. Defending world champions Invictus Gaming were one of the most dominant teams we’ve ever seen at the tournament, winning their first nine matches to cruise to first place in the Group Stage. They were drawn against 4-6 Team Liquid in the semifinals, but Liquid stunned the Chinese champions in a 3-1 upset.

Royal Never Give Up don’t have the same talent that Invictus Gaming did at that competition, and Evil Geniuses are better than Team Liquid were three years ago. Evil Geniuses have been unable to beat RNG and G2 so far, but they did knock off T1 and have played better as they have adapted to the meta.

Impact is a veteran top laner that can outplay RNG’s Bin in the laning phase. Inspired has showcased his world-class talent in the jungle throughout this competition, and Jojopyun has greatly improved as a mid laner over the course of the last few months. Danny has the potential to carry as a bottom laner too, so RNG is simply too much of a favorite at this price.

G2 Esports +361
T1 -476

Although G2 Esports are known as the Korean killers, it wasn’t always this way. G2 struggled in international competitions until Caps and Jankos joined the team, and those two players took this squad to another level. They went on an epic run in the LEC Spring Split Playoffs and won 12 straight games at MSI before falling off a cliff and losing five in a row.

Caps and Jankos are still the stars of the roster, but the new bottom lane of Flakked and Targamas has performed well. The young players have held their own against elite competition, although they have yet to really turn the tide on their opponents in the laning stage.

The big question for T1 is whether or not Gumayusi can return to the form we saw throughout the LCK season. He has the best support in the world in Keria alongside him, but he has made some maddening mistakes over the last few days. If T1 lose this series, it will likely be due to Gumayusi not playing up to his level.
