We still don’t know if Bronny James will declare for the 2024 NBA Draft but if he does, most
bookmakers believe the Los Angeles Lakers will be the team who likely drafts Lebron’s son.
But could another team scoop the 19-year old guard before the Lakers are on the clock?
Possibly, and it may not have anything to do with Bronny’s on court skills.
Bronny’s Story
In 2023, Bronny decided to stay closer to home and opted to play college basketball at USC.
But just months later, there was a major scare as young James suffered a cardiac arrest during
training on campus. Fortunately, he made a full recovery and was able to play for the Trojans.
In his first season, he didn’t set the college world on fire averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and
2.1 assists per game and shot nearly 37% from the field.
Los Angeles Lakers +400
It’s no secret Lebron James would love to play with his son in the NBA. He’s made that
abundantly clear over the last couple of years. This is the reason why the Lakers are favored to
draft Bronny. Lebron can become a free agent after this season, so if the Lakers drafted
Bronny, he likely wouldn’t sign elsewhere or even retire. Lebron has said he wants Bronny to
create his own identity but the chance of playing even one season together, would be too great
to pass up for Lebron, assuming the younger James is selected by Los Angeles.
Cleveland Cavaliers +1100
Could the Cavaliers draft Bronny to lure back Lebron for a third stint in Cleveland? Remember,
Lebron is from Northeast Ohio, and returning home, to end his career, alongside his son would
be the perfect storybook ending. And the Cavs are already one of the best teams in the East,
and by drafting Bronny and possibly signing Lebron would give the James family a chance of
bringing home another ring before Lebron decides to retire.
Draft Outlook
During high school Bronny was widely considered a possible first-round pick in the 2024 Draft.
But then his unfortunate medical incident followed by a subpar freshman season has many
wondering if he’s NBA ready. If he does declare, he could fall into the second round, and In all
likelihood, any team who does select him, will try to use it as a bargaining chip to sign Lebron
James.
