Group Winner: Germany -250
It’s been a disastrous 6-year stretch for Germany when it comes to big tournament play. They
didn’t get out of the group stage in both 2018, 2022 World Cups and were knocked out in the
Round of 16 at the 2020 Euros. But Julian Nagelsmann’s squad has home pitch advantage and
if they can win the group, Germany will get a third-place finisher, making their path into the
quarters a lot easier. Die Mannschaft are three-time champions of the Euros but haven’t lifted
the trophy since 1996.
Key Player: Niclas Fullkrug
The striker has only been on the national squad since 2022 but in that time has been a huge
part of the attack. 11 goals in 15 matches and Fullkrug has only failed to score in four games.
Group Winner: Switzerland +550
Switzerland always finds a way to be consistent performers at tournaments, always finding a
way to make it into the knockout stage. They upset France in the round of 16 at Euro 2020
before losing to Spain in the next round. But the Swiss have been struggling over the last 18
months. While they lost just one match during qualifying, they also drew 5 games, finishing
second in the group. They open against Hungary and a result is crucial for them to have any
chance of advancing.
Group Winner: Hungary +650
After missing 10 straight European Championships Hungary returned to the big dance in 2016
and 2020. But in seven matches, they managed to win just once, a round of 16 loss in 2020.
Hungary qualified by winning its group and going undefeated, 5 wins and 3 draws. On paper,
the runner-up spot is wide open in this group. If Hungary can get through, they’d get an
opponent from Group B, the group of death. That first match vs Switzerland will set the path for
one of those teams to advance.
Key Player: Barnabas Varga
He’s a late developer but Barnabas Varga will be called upon up front. The 29-year old has 4
goals in 8 matches for the national side but has 43 goals in 48 games with club side
Ferencvaros in the past two seasons.
Group Winner: Scotland +900
Scotland is making its second straight appearance at the Euro’s and looking to advance at a
major tournament for the first time in its history. While this side lacks firepower up front, don’t
underestimate their defensive resolve. Steve Clarke’s squad provided a shocker against Spain
in qualifying and could do the same if an opponent takes them lightly.
Key Player: Scott McTominay
Scott McTominay scored 7 goals during qualifying, putting him fourth behind some big names
such as Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku. He also has 7 goals for
Manchester United this season. It’ll fall on him to supply the offense, and if he can deliver,
Scotland could make some history.
