Tampa Bay Vipers Open With Highest XFL Regular Season Win Total

For a second straight offseason, we’re going to try this non-NFL football thing. Last year, the Alliance of American Football actually had a little bit of momentum and a decent product before the league had to abruptly shut down. Now it’s the XFL’s turn as the Vince McMahon-owned league that previously launched and failed in 2001, is now back for a second go around.

By all accounts, it appears to be on more stable ground this time around. BetOnline.ag has posted regular season win totals on all of the teams and the Tampa Bay Vipers have the highest number on the board.

TAMPA BAY VIPERS
XFL REGULAR SEASON WIN TOTAL: 7.5

The Vipers will be coached by Marc Tresman, who was previously the head coach of the Chicago Bears and offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens (from 2013-2016). He’s a real pass-happy head coach who may have been ahead of his time a little bit as now the NFL is pass-oriented.

He’ll have some decent parts to work with, including former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, former Cleveland Browns wideout Antonio Callaway and former AAF alum De’Veon Smith, who ran pretty well for Orlando.

HOUSTON ROUGHNECKS
XFL REGULAR SEASON WIN TOTAL: 6

Another pass-happy head coach takes the reigns here as former Hawaii head coach June Jones will guide the Roughnecks. They’re tied with Dallas as having the second-highest regular season win total.

Jones will be working with some familiar names including Connor Cook, who had a cup of coffee with the Oakland Raiders, and running back Andre Williams, who ran with the New York Giants. Sammie Coates will likely be one of the team’s key wide receiving options. He was a third-round pick wit hthe Pittsburgh Steelers.

DALLAS RENEGADES
XFL REGULAR SEASON WIN TOTAL: 6

Bob Stoops is back and while he could probably get a number of college football coaching jobs, he’s returned to the ranks in the XFL. He’ll have a decent roster with former NFLers Landry Jones, Cameron Artis-Payne and Lance Dunbar. What’s interesting is that Jones was a decent backup in the NFL but also played for Stoops at Oklahoma.

SEATTLE DRAGONS
XFL REGULAR SEASON WIN TOTAL: 3.5

The Seattle Dragons enter the year with one of the lowest regular season win totals. Only the St. Louis BattleHawks have a number that’s as low (3.5 wins).

Seattle is led by Jim Zorn, who was much-maligned in his days as head coach of the Washington Redskins. What’s interesting is that this team targeted a lot of former AAF players in the draft, including running backs Kenneth Farrow and Ja’Quan Gardner, and quarterback Brandon Silvers. Silvers was a four-year starter at Troy but could find his way onto an NFL roster. He was originally a third-stringer in the AAF but eventually made it to the starting role. Most bettors don’t have a ton of faith in him – as well as the other quarterbacks on this roster – which is why this team is being viewed with an air of skepticism.
