NFL 2025 Coaching Changes – Who’s Next To Be Fired After Titans Move On From Callahan?
Summary
The Tennessee Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan after a 4-19 record, making him the first coaching casualty of the 2025 NFL season. Mike McCoy, who has prior head coaching experience, will take over as the interim. The Titans now face the challenge of protecting their rookie quarterback, Cam Ward, who has been sacked a league-high 25 times.
Several other coaches are under pressure, with Mike McDaniel of the 1-5 Miami Dolphins leading the betting odds to be the next one fired. Other names on the hot seat include the Jets’ Aaron Glenn, the Cardinals’ Jonathan Gannon, and the Browns’ Kevin Stefanski. The league has also seen a high number of player suspensions and fines, with over 100 players fined this season.
It took just six games into the NFL 2025 season for a coach to be fired. The Tennessee Titans cut ties with head coach Brian Callahan less than two seasons into his tenure and a 4-19 record under his guidance. His much respected father and Titans offensive line coach Bill Callahan is also leaving the organization. Titans senior offensive assistant Mike McCoy takes over as interim head coach, and will lean on his previous head coaching experience in San Diego, where he was 27-37 as the Chargers head coach from 2013-2016.
As Callahan got sacked, the Titans now need to protect their rookie QB Cam Ward, who has been sacked a league-high 25 times this season. Other teams have their own issues, beyond just potential coaching changes. BetOnline has updated odds on the next coach fired, and it starts with Mike McDaniel of the Miami Dolphins. He was the favorite to be fired first ahead of the 2025 season.
Coaches On The Hot Seat
Heading into Week 7 of the NFL season, BetOnline has adjusted the odds for next head coach fired. Odds are subject to change.
Mike McDaniel – Dolphins (½)
Jonathan Gannon – Cardinals (2/1)
Brian Daboll – Giants (6/1)
Kellen Moore – Saints (9/1)
Kevin Stefanski – Browns (9/1)
Aaron Glenn – Jets (12/1)
Zac Taylor – Bengals (12/1)
Mike McDaniel – Miami is 1-5 with their only victory against the winless New York Jets. The Dolphins are allowing 29 points per game, and their troubles in the trenches is evident, ranking among the worst teams in offensive and defensive rushing. McDaniel supported the organization in getting QB Tua Tagovailoa a big contract, and now the pieces around the coach and quarterback are crumbling. Tua recently created a bigger mess for McDaniel and the team by calling out some of his teammates and airing out issues within the locker room.
Aaron Glenn – A questionable hire by New York from the start, the former Jets cornerback appears over his head when making simple in-game and clock management decisions. Statistically, the Jets are giving up more than 28 points per game to rank near the bottom of the league with a bottom-5 ranking in both offensive and defensive EPA per play. Bringing in one of his own in QB Justin Fields has been a failure so far, and the 82 yards total offense in a 13-11 Week 6 loss to the Broncos in London was another complete embarrassment for the team and coaching staff. A one and done season is possible for Glenn, who has to be considered the most clueless coach on the list.
Jonathan Gannon – It’s not just the players getting suspended and fined, as Gannon’s recent sideline altercation with RB Emari Demercado cost the coach $100,000. Of course, the dumbo Demercado fumbled the ball before crossing the goal line that would have given the Cardinals a 28-6 lead. Instead, the touchback allowed the Titans to stay within striking distance in the second half and steal their only win of the season, 22-21. Clearly not the coach’s fault, but the third-year coach is feeling the heat despite the former Eagles defensive coordinator building a better defense with the Cardinals allowing 21 points per game. The Cardinals (2-4) have lost four-straight games, all by 4-points or less.
Kevin Stefanski – The Browns coach is a 2-time NFL AP Coach of the Year, yet he still has a losing record in five season’s coach in Cleveland. The Browns defense is among the best in 2025 despite the team starting 1-5, but the quarterback carousel has been a major problem starting with one of the worst trades in franchise or NFL history with DeShaun Watson, who hasn’t played for the Browns since Oct., 2024 after suffering an Achilles injury. The Browns offense ranks last in scoring averaging 13.7 points per game with rookie QB Dillon Gabriel trying to find his footing and fellow lost rookie QB Shedeur Sanders sitting on the sidelines after the team recently traded 40-year-old QB Joe Flacco to the Bengals.
Zac Taylor – Speaking of the Bengals (2-4), Cincinnati has the worst scoring differential in the league with 103 points scored and 183 allowed. The pain is worse with star QB Joe Burrow out until at least mid December or the season following toe surgery in September. Taylor has been the Bengals head coach since 2019. Despite two playoff appearances and reaching the Super Bowl in 2021, the Bengals are just 50-60-1 under Taylor.
Brian Daboll – The Giants (2-4) have won 2-of-3 games since inserting rookie QB Jaxson Dart into the starting lineup. Dart was on target in leading a big home upset over the Eagles in Week 6, but the Giants schedule this season ranks the toughest based on season wins. Daboll was AP Coach of the Year in 2022 guiding New York to the playoffs his rookie season as head coach. He can survive, and fortunately the New York media has a better target to taunt in Jets coach Aaron Glenn.
Kellen Moore – The first-year Saints coach is not getting fired, despite a 1-5 start with a 305 yard and 18 points per game offense. The former offensive coordinator of the Cowboys, Chargers and Eagles has a better grasp of offense, but lacks a top-tier quarterback and talent. Moore will have a better chance to unlock the Saints offense in Week 7 as the Saints face a Bears defense allowing 370 yards per game and a league-worst 6.5 yards per play, coordinated by former Saints head coach Dennis Allen.
Player Suspensions And Fines
Players are being suspended and fined at an alarming rate. There were 13 players fined in Week 5 following 20 other players fined in Week 4. Nearly 100 players have been fined this season, including the largest fine of $57,000 to Eagles star defensive tackle Jalen Carter for spitting/unsportsmanlike conduct to start Week 1.
Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is one of more than 10 players that were suspended prior to the season. Rice returns to the field in Week 7 vs. the Raiders for his first action of the season following a car accident in 2024 and conduct detrimental to the team suspension.
