College Football Playoff Semifinals: Big Ten Battle In Peach Bowl Indiana vs. Oregon Stats And Best Bets

Summary

The 2025 college football playoff has featured lopsided results, setting up a highly anticipated Peach Bowl rematch between undefeated Indiana and one-loss Oregon. This showdown will showcase the two best remaining quarterbacks, Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza and Dante Moore, and is projected to be the most-watched game before the national championship.

Both teams boast balanced, top-tier offenses and elite defenses. Key betting recommendations for the game include taking Oregon with the points, predicting a low-scoring contest under 47 total points, and expecting Indiana to score fewer than 25.5 points. The analysis highlights Oregon’s resilience and Indiana’s dominant defensive prowess as critical factors.

The 2025 college football playoff has seen six of the first eight games decided by double-digit margins. That includes the two most dominant performances in the CFP Quarterfinals with Oregon’s 23-0 shutout over Texas Tech and Indiana’s destruction of Alabama, 38-3. That sets up a Big Ten battle and rematch in the Jan. 9 Peach Bowl between the Indiana Hoosiers (14-0) and Oregon Ducks (13-1) in what will be the most-watched and wagered college football game in the College Football Playoff ahead of the National Championship Game on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026.

The Peach Bowl will also feature the two top quarterbacks remaining in the College Football Playoff, with Indiana’s Heisman Trophy-winning QB Fernando Mendoza and Oregon QB Dante Moore.

Following more New Year’s Eve best bet winners in bowl games, along with Miami’s upset of defending national champion Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl and College Football Playoff Quarterfinals, let’s chip in more best bets for the Peach Bowl and Indiana-Oregon showdown.

Peach Bowl Best Bets

  1. Game Spread Oregon +4
  2. Game total Under 47 points
  3. Indiana team total under 25.5 points

BetOnline was among the first sportsbooks to post a spread, moneyline, and totals on the Oregon-Indiana game shortly after the Hoosiers crushed the Crimson Tide. Indiana opened as a -4.5 point favorite and a total of 47.5 points, and settled at Indiana -4 and 47 into the early evening of New Year’s Day.

Oregon and Indiana both feature strong, balanced offenses with 200+ rushing yards per game and rank top 10 in the country in yards per play offense and defense. Through the CFP games, the Ducks’ offense averages 36.4 points per game on 455 yards per game at 6.8 yards per play, and allows 269 yards per game at 4.2 yards per play and 15.3 points per game. The Hoosiers average 39.2 points per game while gaining 452 yards per game at 6.6 yards per play on offense. Indiana joins Oregon in the top 5 on defense, allowing just 266 yards per game at 4.5 yards per play and 11.1 points per game.

Oregon Ducks

Ahead of their 23-0 CFP win over Texas Tech, Oregon led the FBS with a 95.1 team Pro Football Focus (PFF) rushing grade. The Ducks were also first in EPA per run and second in yards per carry (6.2). But Oregon managed just 64 rushing yards on 47 attempts against the PFF top-rated Red Raiders’ run defense. Oregon’s offensive line leads the nation in PFF pass-blocking grade, and they were up to the task against Texas Tech’s elite defensive front protecting QB Dante Moore, who completed 26-of-33 passes for 234 yards and 1 interception while getting sacked twice. Oregon also leads the nation in net yards per play and is No. 4 in the country in expected points added (EPA) per play. Considering the Ducks battled a number of injuries this season and are now healthy and performing their best in the CFP, they are clearly the best team remaining to have a chance to beat No. 1 Indiana. That’s if QB Dante Moore can make plays and minimize mistakes, as he had two of his least productive games this season against the top defenses of Indiana and Iowa. Moore completed 21-of-34 passes for 186 yards at 5.5 yards per pass and 2 interceptions against Indiana in a 30-20 defeat. He was 13-of-21 for 112 yards at 5.3 yards per pass and 1 interception against Iowa, with a late-game field goal giving the Ducks an 18-16 win. The Iowa game was two weeks after Moore suffered a broken nose against Wisconsin and left the game in the third quarter after completing 9-of-15 passes for 86 yards in a 21-7 win. Moore has also thrown at least one interception in each of the two College Football Playoff games against James Madison and Texas Tech.

Indiana Hoosiers

Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti has led the greatest turnaround of any college football program in recent memory. They have proven their position as the best team in college football this season while earning wins in their five toughest tests away from home. Indiana won at Oregon 30-20 and had one-score wins at Iowa (20-15), Penn State (27-24), and 13-10 over Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game. The recent 38-3 rout over Alabama solidifies the Hoosiers’ standing as the best team as they shoot for a national championship game appearance and title. Indiana’s dominant defense has been among the elite few this season, and they can counter the Ducks’ running game strength with PFF’s third-ranked run-defense grade. Indiana also blitzes at a high rate (48%) and disguises its coverages and blitz packages well. Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza was a deserving Heisman Trophy winner, and his post-snap processing and identifying complex coverages has been exceptional while delivering the ball quickly and accurately with a swift 2.52-second average time to throw. The Hoosiers’ running game ranks sixth nationally in EPA per run and third in team PFF run-blocking grade. A betting angle working against Indiana is tthat eams with the Heisman Trophy winner are 10-21 ATS against teams coming off a straight up and against the spread (ATS) win, like Oregon.
