Pegasus World Cup Field, Odds And 2026 Race Day Picks

The first big racing day of 2026 is Saturday, Jan. 24, and features the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational at Gulfstream Park. South Florida’s leading luxury sports and lifestyle event of the year has helped energize and modernize the sport of horse racing for a new generation of fans. This year’s 10th edition of the Pegasus World Cup sets the stage with track announcer Pete Aiello calling the race for NBC Sports, and the broadcast is also streamed live on Peacock, along with the Pegasus World Cup Turf, starting at 4:30 pm. ET. 

Both Grade 1 races are for older horses at 1 1/8 miles, and Pegasus World Cup day features seven graded stakes on the 13-race card as the biggest racing day of the Gulfstream Park Championship Meet ahead of the March 28 Florida Derby.

Pegasus World Cup Top Contenders, Notes and Picks

Disco Time is the favorite, and he’s 5-for-5 for trainer Brad Cox with a top Equibase Speed Figure (ESF) of 112. He’s never run this 1 ⅛ mile distance, and the undefeated son of hot sire Not This Time faces older horses for the first time in his toughest test and biggest race yet.

White Abarrio has 8 wins in 9 starts at Gulfstream, including last year’s Pegasus World Cup victory by 6 lengths with jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr., winning the Pegasus WC a record third time. The galloping gray also won the 2022 Florida Derby at Gulfstream and last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic. Trained by Saffie Joseph, Jr., the 7-year-old has 10 wins in 24 starts with a top Equibase Speed Figure of 122. White Abarrio hasn’t raced since last summer, when finishing 4th in three straight Grade 1 races.

Tappan Street has won 3-of-4 starts, all at Gulfstream, including last year’s Florida Derby over eventual Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty. He’s a stablemate of Disco Time for EPO (noted drug) trainer Brad Cox. Tappan Street suffered an injury following the Florida Derby and missed the Kentucky Derby and the rest of the year until returning last month to win an Allowance race with his best 104 ESF.   

Mika has 3 wins in 8 starts plus a near miss in last month’s Cigar Mile at Aqueduct. That was his first graded stakes start, and he ran his fastest race with a 114 ESF for trainer Mike Maker. He’ll be running along the lead, ensuring an honest pace.  

Madaket Road has 1 win and 4 seconds in 9 starts for trainer Bob Baffert, who has won this race a record three times. Madaket Road set the pace in last year’s 1 ⅛ mile Florida Derby before tiring to finish fourth. He got stronger and faster in three Grade 1 races the rest of the year, including a 109 ESF and a 102 in last month’s Malibu at his home track at Santa Anita. 

Full Serrano (ARG) has 7 wins and 6 second-place finishes in 20 starts, including 2 wins and 2 runner-up finishes since coming to the U.S. in the summer of 2024. He’s shown flashes of brilliance as 1-of-3 horses in the Pegasus with a Grade 1 win, but a foot injury slowed him in 2025. Now training well with fast morning works at Santa Anita as he ships in for trainer John Sadler. Full Serrano runs his best at 1 mile, and he won at the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile with a career-best 117 ESF with top jockey Joel Rosario, who rides again. Full Serrano is the most capable longshot to challenge for the Pegasus victory, and he’ll be out front looking to take it gate to wire and should be included in win wagers along with Exacta and Trifecta bets and any double with the Pegasus World Cup Turf.   

Poster is the other big longshot to consider for trainer Eoin Harty. He was on the Derby trail last year before suffering an injury, and returned to win in November with his best 106 ESF. He then just missed by a neck as the favorite in the Grade 3 Harlan’s Holiday at Gulfstream last month, rallying from well off the pace to lead in the stretch before winner Skippylongstocking, who runs in the Pegasus, caught him late.
