Game 5 World Series Best Bets and Prop Plays for Wednesday Oct 29th

Summary

Following a crucial win that tied the World Series, the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers face off in a pivotal Game 5. The pitching matchup features Toronto’s rookie Trey Yesavage, a strikeout pitcher prone to walks, against the Dodgers’ Blake Snell, who was dominant in earlier playoff rounds but struggled against the Jays in Game 1. Both lineups are potent, setting the stage for a compelling contest.

The prediction favors the Dodgers’ offense to score over 3.5 runs, citing their powerful home lineup getting a second look at the rookie Yesavage in his first road playoff start. Key player prop bets include Shohei Ohtani exceeding 2.5 combined hits, runs, and RBIs, Tommy Edman recording over 1.5 strikeouts, and Blake Snell achieving more than 6.5 strikeouts.

After that devastating 18-inning loss in Game 3, the Toronto Blue Jays bounced back in Game 4 with a gutsy 6-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers to even the best-of-seven World Series at two games apiece.  Let’s preview this crucial game as the series is now a best of three.

Dodgers-1.5 (-103)-203U7.5 (+102)

Toronto Blue Jays Starting Pitcher

The Blue Jays are going with Trey Yesavage, who is making just his eighth career start.  The 22-year old has been a punch out machine with 27 strikeouts in 4 playoff games.  Yesavage has a 3.82 ERA with 11.7 strikeouts per nine innings, however, he’s allowing 4.6 walks per nine innings.  And he faces a Dodgers lineup that has scored the most runs at home this season, averaging 5.5 per game.  But the Jays have the hottest bats in the majors since the All-Star Break with 5.6 runs per game in that stretch. He has started four games in the postseason, going 2-1, pitching 19 innings, and recording a 4.26 ERA.

Los Angeles Dodgers Starting Pitcher

The Dodgers will send Blake Snell to the mound on Wednesday.  Snell was rocked in Game 1 by the Blue Jays giving 8 hits, 5 earned runs including a home run by Daulton Varsho that started the onslaught in a 9-2 loss.  Prior to that game, Snell was dominant in the playoffs, allowing just 6 hits and 2 runs in three games while striking out 28 batters.  He’s combined for a 2.37 ERA this season (regular and playoffs) with 10.7K’s per nine innings.  This is his fifth start of the postseason, and he has posted a 3-1 record while pitching 26 innings and posting a 2.42 ERA.

With both starters showing flashes and vulnerabilities, Game 5 sets up to be a fascinating chess match. If you’re looking to track updated lines, alternate totals, or same-game parlays, you can find all available markets for this World Series matchup in the MLB section of the BetOnline Sportsbook.

Prediction for Game 5: Dodgers Over 3.5 runs

If you go with what happened in Game 1 between these starting pitchers, expect a high scoring game.  But for this wager, we’ll lean on the Dodgers’ team total.  L.A. is in a favorable spot as they get a second look at the rookie pitcher in less than a week.  Because Yesavage started the season in Double-A, there isn’t much tape on him as he only made three starts in the regular-season.  I think the Dodgers’ lineup will find a way to get to the 6-foot-4 pitcher, especially considering this will be his first road start in the playoffs.  Additionally, the weather should favor the hitters as the temperature should be in the high 90’s for the opening pitch, which could help carry the ball a bit further.  It’s the last game in California before the series goes back to Canada so I expect the Dodgers to score some runs in this one.

BEST BET: Dodgers team runs: Over 3.5

Player Prop Plays Best Bets

Shohei Ohtani – OVER 2.5 Hits, Runs & RBIs

After struggling at the plate in Game 4 where he went 0-3 with a walk and two strikeouts, you’d have to think it’s a bounce back game for Shohei Ohtani on Wednesday.  In Game 3, the Japanese sensation reached base a record nine times, including being intentionally walked four times — and unintentionally walked once.  Maybe his lack of production coincided with his start on the mound but however you look at it, you’d think he’ll have a better outing in Game 5, his last appearance at Dodger Stadium this season.  He’s gone over this total 3 times in his last five – and a single home run covers this line. Speaking of home runs, sprinkling him with an anytime HR at +175, isn’t a bad bet either.  PROP BEST BET: OVER 2.5 Hits, Runs & RBIs -105.

Tommy Edman – OVER 1.5 Batter Strikeouts

We’re going with an alternate line for Tommy Edman because striking out in a game is almost a sure thing, so there is some value with wagering on his for two K’s. The second baseman has struck out at least once in eight straight games, and in ten of his last twelve.  And over that span, Edman has been punched out twice in a game, five times.   PROP BEST BET: OVER 1.5K’s +275.

Blake Snell – OVER 6.5 Strikeouts

This number does seem high, but Snell was on his way to 7K’s in Game 1 until he was rocked in the sixth inning. Prior to that, he was averaging nine strikeouts a game in the postseason.  As long as he can stay composed and not get rattled by the Jays batters, Snell should go deeper in this game, and that means racking up the Ks.  Over his last nine starts, Snell has averaged 8.2K’s per game, and has averaged over 6 innings of work.  And he’ll be pumped in his last start at home this season.  PROP BEST BET: OVER 6.5K’s -105.
