The Grammys: Wanna Bet?

Summary

Following the Grammy nominations, betting markets have seen significant and volatile movement. Bruno Mars’s “APT. ROSE” has surged from a 12/1 longshot to become the 5/6 favorite for Record of the Year, while Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild” has drifted out to +800. Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” remains steady at +250.

In the Album of the Year category, Lady Gaga’s “MAYHEM” is the major mover, backed in from +2000 to -250. For Song of the Year, Demon Hunter’s “Golden KPop” has been heavily supported, moving from 8/1 to become the -150 favorite. The difference between the Song and Record categories is that the former honors songwriters, while the latter awards performers and producers.

So, the Grammy nominations are out and, as a result, if you know your music, you might just make hay — because we here at BOL HQ definitely do not. For our initial markets, we’re mostly relying on our teenage kids and their friends. So if you’ve got the inside scoop… help yourself!

Because of this, there have been some big moves in the market as we trade our way through all the money coming in — which, for something that might seem niche, is surprisingly large. Clearly, you lot know a thing or two. Anyway, on to the nitty gritty:

Record of the Year

APT. ROSE / Bruno Mars (no idea who that is either) started out as a 12/1 (+1200) shot and is now the 5/6 (-120) favorite — which just shows you how volatile these markets can be.

Conversely, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild” was -150 and has drifted all the way out to +800. Do yourself a favor and watch the video — you can thank me later.

Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” is holding steady at +250, but our view is that her stock is no longer on the rise. Yesterday’s girl, perhaps.

Album of the Year

This is considered “the biggie” of the Grammy Nominations, though in the streaming age, why anyone still feels the need to make a full album is anybody’s guess.

The big mover here is, once again, Gaga — with MAYHEM. (All these random capitalizations drive me insane. So pretentious… oops.)

Nevertheless, bettors can’t get enough of MAYHEM, backing it in from +2000 to -250 and everywhere in between.

Boring Factoid of the Day

What’s the difference between Song of the Year and Record of the Year? Glad you asked (or didn’t).

Here’s the quick version: Record of the Year goes to the performer and production team, whereas Song of the Year is awarded solely to the songwriter(s).

Song of the Year

All the money here has been for Demon Hunter’s “Golden KPop” (again — me neither). It opened at 8/1 (+800) and has been smashed into -150.
