1. Julian Sayin is a redshirt freshman on the consensus No. 1 team since early season. He’s completing nearly 80% of his passes while leading the country in passer efficiency and taken just 6 sacks. He’s +135 to win the Heisman Trophy and in a dead heat with Big Ten competitor Fernando Mendoza (+135) as those two play in the Big Ten Championship Game. Sayin has a 20/2 touchdown to interception ratio against Big Ten opponents, but the Buckeyes did not face the three other top teams in the conference Oregon, Iowa and USC. Ohio State’s top defense tackles Michigan in The Big Game rivalry over Thanksgiving weekend.

2. Fernando Mendoza transferred from Cal to Indiana, and the junior has continued to climb the ranks with his performances to become the current co-Heisman Trophy favorite at +135 at BetOnline. He became the first quarterback to reach 30 TD passes this season, and has 5 rushing touchdowns. The former 2 star recruit joined his redshirt freshman QB brother Alberto on the Hoosiers and has led Indiana to their first-ever 11-0 start. Indiana is on their way to a first Big Ten Championship Game appearance and second consecutive College Football Playoff berth.

3. Marcel Reed had his worst half of football in the Aggies’ recent game against South Carolina with 2 interceptions and just 6-of-19 passing. However, Reed rallied undefeated A&M from a 30-3 halftime deficit at home with 298 passing yards in the second half, completing 16-of-20 passes and 3 touchdowns. The historic comeback win over South Carolina 31-30 kept Texas A&M on top of the SEC as the only unbeaten team in conference play heading into their Texas-sized showdown in Austin with the Longhorns. But A&M lost to rival Texas 27-20 and Reed had 2 more interceptions and finished tied for the SEC passing touchdowns lead with 25.

4. Gunner Stockton leads the conference in passing efficiency against SEC competition. His 8 rushing touchdowns was second in the SEC for quarterbacks. The junior’s recent performance in a 35-10 win over Texas and the Longhorns’ top defense included completing 24 of 29 passes for 229 yards and 4 touchdowns. Stockton’s 86% completion rate in the fourth quarter this season, heading into the Georgia Tech game was the highest in all of college football. He’s also completed 77.5% of his passes against ranked teams with 11 touchdowns to just one interception against four ranked opponents.

5. Behren Morton is leading Texas Tech to the Big 12 Championship Game and a spot in the College Football Playoff if they capture the Big 12 title, and now likely if they lose as well. The Red Raiders have won 11 games by at least 22 points each, including 34-10 at Utah when Morton had his only 2-interception game of the season. The Red Raiders only loss this season was when Morton didn’t play due to a lingering knee injury and Texas Tech lost 26-22 against defending Big 12 champion Arizona State.

6. Trinidad Chambliss transferred from FCS Ferris State and has shone in his debut SEC season. He has seven games of 300+ yards passing this season with 18 TD passes and 6 rushing touchdowns, including 4 passing TD’s in the Egg Bowl rivalry win over Mississippi State to secure the Ole Miss Rebels’ spot in the College Football Playoff.

7. Dante Moore recently had his best game as a Duck, completing 27-of-30 passes for 304 yards and 2 TD’s in Oregon’s 42-13 win over Minnesota. The sophomore transfer from UCLA had two solid games to complete the regular season with 257 passing yards against rival UCLA, and 286 passing yards and 3 total TD’s at Washington to conclude the regular season and send the Ducks to their second-straight College Football Playoff.

8. Ty Simpson has just 2 interceptions late into the season before throwing 2 picks against non-conference Eastern Illinois in a 56-0 win ahead of the Iron Bowl against Auburn. His one interception against Oklahoma was costly and returned 87-yards for a pick-6 TD against Oklahoma as the Sooners upset the Tide in Tuscaloosa, 23-21. Simpson’s 278 passing yards per game was leading the country until his final two games produced a total of  269 yards. Simpson has thrown 10 TD’s in five games vs ranked opponents this season.

9. CJ Carr is leading the Irish back to the College Football Playoff with 9-straight wins following a pair of close losses to Miami and Texas A&M to open the season. The redshirt freshman has been solid including a 354 yard and 4 TD pass performance at Arkansas. His 9.4 yards per pass is tied for the best of the CFP quarterbacks alongside the two Heisman Trophy favorites. Carr is the grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, and his father played quarterback at Michigan.

10. John Mateer was a Heisman favorite to start the season, and through four games he passed for at least 270 yards each game including against Michigan’s top defense in victory. But he suffered a broken bone in his right throwing hand against Auburn. He was less than 100% in his first game back in a 23-6 rivalry loss to Texas. His 223 passing yards against Ole Miss in defeat was his highest in five games since the injury, but he helped the Sooners to a pair of big road wins at Tennessee and Alabama to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive. Oklahoma then won their final two games against Missouri and LSU to get into the playoff with Mateer passing for 318 yards (2 TDs, 3 INTs) against the LSU Tigers – his most passing yards against an FBS opponent this season.

11. Chandler Morris led Virginia’s resurgence after transferring from North Texas with previous stops at TCU and Oklahoma. The senior passed for 316 yards and 2 TD’s to lead the Cavaliers over the Duke Blue Devils on Nov. 15, and Virginia and Duke now play for the ACC Championship. Missing out on the ACC title game down the stretch was Georgia Tech, whose senior QB Haynes King was having his finest season trying to lead the Yellow Jackets to their first College Football Playoff. King’s 330 total yards per game led the country, and it included 922 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns to lead all college quarterbacks.

12. Jake Retzlaff is a senior looking to lead Tulane to the American Athletic (AAC) championship and Group of Five automatic bid to the College Football Playoff. He’s added 14 rushing touchdowns for the Green Wave. But his worst performance of the season came in Tulane’s step-up game at Ole Miss when he passed for just 56 yards and failed to complete a pass in the first half of an eventual 45-10 whipping by the Rebels.
