Super Bowl LX Odds: Patriots-Seahawks Picks, Props, Tips And Trends
Summary
Super Bowl betting is set for record levels, driven by popular proposition and live in-game wagers. The Seattle Seahawks are currently a 5-point favorite over the New England Patriots, with most money supporting Seattle to cover the spread. Betting data shows a majority of wagers are on the Seahawks, though the public is split on the game’s total points.
Historical trends favor underdogs against the spread, and teams scoring over 27 points have a strong record. Analysis suggests the Seahawks’ top-ranked defense gives them an advantage, while the Patriots’ offensive struggles in the playoffs are a concern. The prediction is for Seattle to win convincingly.
Big Game betting will reach record levels again with popular Super Bowl props and exotic bets driving the watch and wager action, including live/in-game betting. The Seattle Seahawks are up to a -5 point favorite over the New England Patriots with the Super Bowl LX game total 45.5 points. The game spread opened Seahawks -4 at BetOnline.
Billions of dollars worldwide will be bet on the Super Bowl across the spread, moneyline, and total. Nearly 50% of the action is on props bets. A majority of the bets will come in over the weekend leading up to the Feb. 8 Super Bowl, and BetOnline reports the following wagering data less than a week ahead of the Patriots-Seahawks showdown in Santa Clara, CA.
- 58% of the money (handle) and 65% of the bets on the Seahawks (-5)
- 70% of the money and 50% of moneyline bets on Seahawks (-235)
- 53% of the money is supporting under 45.5 points, and 62% of bets are over 45.5
“The sharps are on Seahawks early, and a little bit of sharp action on the over (45.5) at reduced -102 odds,” says BetOnline brand manager Dave Mason.
BetOnline adds thousands of Super Bowl proposition bets, and some fun, funky, and novelty props. Ten of the most popular props for the Super Bowl include the coin toss and National Anthem, which have been bet from over/under 120 seconds up to 125 seconds and back down to 122 seconds on Tuesday ahead of the Big Game. The quarterback props are most popular, along with Most Valuable Player (MVP) followed by other player props.
This year’s spread of Seahawks -5 is not one of the 15 biggest point spreads in Super Bowl history. But BetOnline sportsbook and other leading online sportsbooks are going to take a hit if Seattle wins, and a bigger loss if the Seahawks roll to a bigger margin victory. Of course, the sportsbooks still make tons of money thanks to the smorgasbord of prop bets they take. BetOnline reports that the Super Bowl takes in 7-8 times more bets on the Super Bowl than the AFC and NFC Championship Games, where we posted a 5-1 mark on six player props on the Patriots-Broncos and Rams-Seahawks conference championship games.
Super Bowl Tips, Trends And Stats
Action Network research team reports that since 2004, the underdog is 15-7 against the spread (ATS) in the Super Bowl, and the ‘Dog has covered the spread in each of the last five Big Games. Super Bowl underdogs of 3+ points are 13-4 ATS since 2002. Other trends and data from the Vegas Stats & Information Network and Playbook Sports included:
- The straight-up winner of the Super Bowl is 50-7-2 ATS.
- No. 1 seeds in the Super Bowl (Seahawks) are 15-21 SU and 12-22-2 ATS since 1990, including 7-22 SU and 4-14-2 ATS versus non-No.1 seeds.
- Teams that allowed fewer points per game during the regular season have gone 9-1 SU and 8-2 ATS in the last 10 Super Bowls. That fits the Seahawks, like it did the Eagles in a 40-22 victory over the Chiefs in last year’s Super Bowl.
- Since the Super Bowl era began, 16 teams reached the Big Game after allowing fewer than 10 points per game during their playoff run. Those teams are 14-2 ATS in the Super Bowl, and the 2025 Patriots fit the profile.
- Teams that have failed to score 20 points in the Super Bowl have been 2-25 SU and 4-22-1 ATS since 1980. Teams that score 27 or more points in the Super Bowl are 32-5 SU and 29-7-1 ATS in that same time frame.
- Seattle has the 5th highest DVOA ever, behind the dominant 1991 Redskins, 2007 Patriots, 1985 Bears, and 1989 Niners – three of those teams won the Super Bowl, and only the undefeated 2007 Patriots team lost.
- The Seahawks had the league’s best DVOA this season, and beat the Rams team twice that was No. 2 in DVOA. Seattle’s top defense ranked No. 1 in EPA per play allowed, No. 3 in success rate allowed, No. 4 in passing success rate allowed, and No. 1 in rushing success rate allowed.
- The Patriots struggled on offense in the playoffs, albeit in some inclement weather, while averaging just 18 points per game in three playoff contests. New England played the weakest schedule in the league this season after winning just 4 games last season. Only three other teams made the Super Bowl after winning 4 or fewer games the previous season, and all three lost in the Super Bowl.
I like the Seahawks to roll to a Super Bowl victory as the team that is also more likely to score 27 or more points, with the Patriots most likely to score less than 20 points.
By the way, BetOnline has a Super Bowl prop offering of the lowest Super Bowl ticket price – over/under $2,500 (via TickPick, through Sat., Feb. 7).
I wouldn’t bet on it.
